2013 Steuben Parade set for September 21st
After another successful year of celebrating German-American culture and tradition, the 56th Annual Steuben Parade has now been set for Saturday, September 21st.
We have already signed up a number of exciting groups from all over Germany, but also guest groups from Austria and Switzerland. Also, the upcoming parade will see a number of new floats in honor of historic German-Americans and other topics. Mark your calendar for another exciting day on Fifth Avenue, followed by New York´s largest Oktoberfest in Central Park.
Also, please keep in mind that the weekend festivities will start on Friday, September 20th, with the official greeting for all international groups at City Hall, followed by our black-tie Steuben Parade Gala, another highlight you do not want to miss. More details on all events will be out soon.

Who will be Miss German-America 2013?
Hundreds of thousands watched and cheered just a few days ago, when Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands abdicated and her son, Willem-Alexander, accepted the throne of this tiny European country.
In just two short weeks, another Queen will face the end of her reign: Kirsten Mueller, Queen of the 2012 German-American Steuben Parade and Miss German-America. While her office holds no political power - much like being Queen of the Netherlands - the reigning Steuben Parade Queen is much celebrated by her constituents: Americans of German descent throughout and beyond the tri-state area.

CHEERING FOR BOTH SIDES IN DC
German-Americans will have a hard time picking sides on June 2nd, when the United States are facing Germany in a soccer friendly at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC. The match is part of the Centennial Celebrations of US Soccer, which was founded in April 1913 in Manhattan and is today the governing body of both, the Men´s and Women´s National Teams. While the women´s teams recently had a 3-3 tie in a hotly contested match in Offenbach, Germany, the men chose US soil for their meeting.
The match between Germany and the United States will pit German-Midfielder-come-US-Coach Jürgen Klinsmann not only against his own native country, but also against a formidable team coached by his former assistant, Jogi Löw. In a recent meeting with Steuben Parade Chairs Lars Halter and Geraldine Brand, Klinsmann did not see that as an advantage nor disadvantage: "It´s a friendly game," he said with a chuckle. "We are looking for a great time". Not that the US can not beat Germany: That happened in 1999 when the Americans scored 3-0 over the German team in Jacksonville, FL.
The German-American Committee is offering a special bus trip to see the game in Washington, DC.
Tickets are available in two categories: "VIP Tickets" include best seating in "Upper Midfield", free beer and food on the bus, an exclusive German-American fan scarf, and more. "Fan Tickets" include seating in the "Upper Sideline" section. Both, of course, include round-trip transportation, with luxury buses leaving from the Bierhaus NYC (712 Third Avenue, at 44th Street) at 8 am, returning to the same location at 11 pm. The game will start at 2.30 pm.

On the Ice with Norbert Schramm
On a recent night, the German-American Committee went ice skating with Olympic Legend and 2012 Steuben Parade Grand Marshal, Norbert Schramm. It was one of the last great night on beautiful Wollman Rink in Central Park, with temperatures high enough for a stroll but still cold enough to preserve the ice. Guests of the Committee were met personally by Norbert Schramm in an exclusive warm-up tent, where the famous skater gave some quick remarks about his career and word of encouragement to all who wanted to try their luck that night under professional supervision. → more
